James Bond Producer Says Bond Will Never Be A Woman, Many Agree

While there have been social media campaigns urging for the casting of Idris Elba as the first black James Bond when Daniel Craig hangs up his suit after the next movie, there isn’t the slightest chance that the 007 role goes to a woman. Speaking to The Guardian, the franchise producer Barbara Broccoli ruled out a gender switch a la “Doctor Who” for the Ian Fleming-created spy character.

“Bond is male,” Broccoli insisted. “He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.” She shared an idea, though, that would put more spotlights on women, “And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”

Suprisingly, many share the same thoughts with Broccoli. Reacting to the article published on Entertainment Weekly, one wrote, “Atomic Blonde is pretty much the female 007. Just make a franchise out of that. It’s even set in the Cold War so it works perfectly for the spy genre.”

Another similarly commented, “Atomic Blonde was great John Wick style cold war spy thriller I loved it. It even had a better box office than John Wick. Its a much better idea to do the work and write a character then doing the gender swap remakes. Can’t wait for the sequel.”
