At the start of 2019, not many people believed they had heard it right when Chameleone, through a presser held at Kololo-based DNA Lounge, declared intentions to be involved in the 2021 Kampala Mayoral race.
With the current Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago downplaying the singer’s influence, Chameleone made it clear that he was not afraid of taking on any political figure in his bid to add a brick on Kampala’s development if he ever wins the election in 2021.
Everything seemed clear at that point except that the Valu Valu singer had declined stating on which party card he was going to stand in 2021. He often mentioned that he did not belong to any political party and was ready to stand as an independent candidate come election time.
Well, that changed so fast on Wednesday as Chameleone visited the offices of the Democratic Party (D.P) to announce his allegiance to one of the oldest continuing political party in Uganda’s politics.
The Democratic Party, established on 6th October1954, is a moderate conservative political party in Uganda currently led by Norbert Mao. It has been home for several influential political figures including Paul Ssemogerere, John Ssebaana Kizito and president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
An official statement from the Democratic Party was shared across their social media pages to confirm that Chameleone had joined the party with sights set for 2021 Mayoral race.“Joseph Mayanja aka Dr. Jose Chameleone and his brother Pius Mayanja aka Pallaso have officially joined the Democratic Party. Jose Chameleone coming for Kampala Lord Mayor then Pallaso for MP Kawempe South.”
