The Nyege Nyege Festival 2019 5th edition happened from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th September at the Nile Discovery Resort in Njeru, Jinja, but it’s something to remember, as Ugandans enjoyed themselves to the max.
The 4-day international music festival that happens annually in Uganda (since 2015) as people from all over the world gather in Jinja to experience different cultures, lifestyles, music, art, fashion, food, and so much more.
If you are curious about the love for fun, togetherness and the party life in Africa, Jinja was the place for you to be as people from across Africa and the world partied for four straight days, without sleeping. Drinking, cuddling, smoking, dancing, bonking, getting high, and lots of other nasty stuff.
Local artistes; Sheebah, Beenie Gunter, Navio, The Mith, joined several other artistes from Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Congo, Rwanda, South Africa, USA, UK, France, China, Cote d’Ivore, etc to perform for the revelers.Several deejays (both local and international) performed on different stages for four days giving the revelers a time of their lives. The likes of Selector Jay, Slick Stuart & Roja, Bryan, Naselow, Ali Breezy, Deejay LL, LB, Alza, Buggy, among others, all performed.
Unlike in the past editions, the festival started registering big numbers on Day 1. This wasn’t the case last year as the festival had been heavily criticized by government to be a root of all evil, prostitution, and immorality. There were less hindrances this year and the ground was set running to the fullest with people who enjoy having a good time.
Fashion, paintings, outfits, art crafts, carvings, and face painting gave the venue a whole new look on Friday (Day 2) as different cultures, traditions and new creative ideas were put in the open in the makeshift studios designed at different parts of the venue. Sections with stages for performances were designed with branded tents and banners across the large venue.
Saturday and Sunday, as expected, pooled the most crowds as revelers partied trans-night and into the next day without a worry but maximum fun. The biggest highlight of the event, as it has been in the past, was the dress code as the hot weather dictated that a little bit more skin had to be on display. Even with flashes of rain, revelers stuck to their skimpy and revealing outfits – we were optically fed.
